A deputy was attacked while attempting to evacuate an apartment in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said they recently arrived at an apartment in southeast Colorado Springs in the 3300 block of Verde Drive to complete an eviction.

The sheriff’s office said when the original tenant moved out, several people they believed to be squatters moved in and occupied the apartment.

34-year-old Erek Jones was known to be one of those who moved into the house. The sheriff’s office said it was told he was verbally abusive to staff at the apartment.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they found four adult men. They said three of them followed orders, but one man refused, saying he “wouldn’t go.”

Officials said Jones attempted to physically attack one of the deputies, and during the altercation another man, 28-year-old Ernie Jones, joined in and also attacked the deputies.

Officers said they requested backup and Colorado Springs police and additional forces from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrived.

The sheriff’s office said Erek Jones already has a no-bail arrest warrant issued by the Department of Corrections. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the warrant as well as second-degree assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
