Teen arrested after crashing into FHP trooper during cross-country chase in stolen BMW – NBC 6 South Florida

An 18-year-old driver who crashed into a Florida Highway Patrol trooper in a stolen BMW Tuesday morning as he led authorities on a chase across Miami-Dade and Broward has been arrested, officials said.

The incident began around 4:40 a.m. when a police officer recognized the stolen gray BMW on the Palmetto Expressway near Medley, officials said.

The owner of the BMW that was stolen in West Kendall also pursued the vehicle.

The officer attempted to stop the car, which then sped away at speeds of 110 to 120 mph (175 to 190 km/h), officials said.

The pursuit continued into Broward County and onto Florida’s Turnpike before the BMW headed east on Sunrise Boulevard and then north on State Road 7.

The pursuit continued until the BMW turned east on West Oakland Park Boulevard, where the driver pulled into the parking lot of a McDonald’s.

As the BMW left the McDonald’s parking lot, it collided with the officer’s car, officials said.

The FHP cruiser spun and crashed into a large sign in the parking lot of an office store next to McDonald’s. The BMW continued westbound on West Oakland Park Boulevard until a mechanical failure caused the car to go onto the sidewalk and crash into a bus stop in Broward County.

The driver, 18-year-old Tommie Allen, and another suspect, 20-year-old Tyler Tyrone Hollins, exited the BMW and fled on foot before being arrested by Fort Lauderdale police and the Broward Sheriff’s Office, officials said.

The officer whose car was struck, Ronald Melendez-Bonilla, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Both suspects have been arrested and are facing charges of grand larceny, fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest without violence.

According to an incident report, Hollins suffered minor injuries, including a dog bite.
