56-year-old man allegedly raped woman near public library in Aventura

ADVENTURE, Florida. – A Miami man was arrested Monday after being accused of raping a woman near a public library in Aventura, according to police.

According to authorities, the incident occurred near the Northeast Dade – Aventura Branch Library, 2930 NE 199th St.

A 911 caller reported seeing a man at a bus depot near the 19500 block of Biscayne Boulevard around 5 a.m. Police later identified him as 56-year-old Emmanuel Palmier, who was allegedly involved in the rape, according to a police report released Tuesday.

The victim told police that she repeatedly told the man to “stop and get away from her” during the rape, the report said.

Aventura police said Palmier boarded a bus shortly after the incident, which they pursued to 18615 W. Dixie Hwy. The bus was stopped and Palmier was arrested without incident, the report said.

Palmier, a French citizen, was taken to the Aventura police station, where, according to investigators, the victim clearly identified him as the perpetrator.

Police said Palmier was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with investigators.

During the interrogation, investigators said, he made a confession, which was, however, redacted in the published report.

Authorities confirmed that, based on the statements and evidence available in the case, there was sufficient suspicion to arrest Palmier.

Prison records show that Palmier is charged with sexual abuse of a physically helpless victim.

He has been held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center since Tuesday, where his bail has not yet been decided.
