Kuwait sentences Islamic teacher to ten years in prison for child rape

Dubai: In a final ruling, the Court of Cassation in Kuwait has upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal to sentence an Egyptian Islamic teacher to ten years in prison with hard labor and subsequent deportation. The teacher was convicted of raping a child in the Khaitan area.

The criminal court had initially imposed the death penalty for this crime, but the appeals court later reduced it to ten years’ imprisonment.

The case attracted considerable attention due to the severity of the charges and the teacher’s history of legal problems, including multiple allegations of child rape.

In previous cases, the teacher had faced varying punishments ranging from death to various prison terms, along with some acquittals.

This latest verdict concludes a series of legal proceedings against the teacher, and while he faces a harsh punishment for his crimes, it does not amount to the death penalty.
