A State College man has been jailed for raping and assaulting a woman at a Center County motel

A State College man was arrested Monday after a woman told police he raped, assaulted and robbed her at a Center Region motel.

Robert C. Wason, 38, met the woman through an online advertisement for bachelor parties and private dance events, Ferguson Township police wrote in a probable cause affidavit. They arranged to meet at a motel in Ferguson Township.

The woman said Wason handcuffed her to the bed and told her he was police and she was under arrest, a detective and sergeant wrote in the charging document. He was accused of then raping and strangling her.

Wason placed a pillow over the woman’s face to suffocate her, she told police, adding that she fought back by biting his hands.

Her body had scratches, cuts and swelling, which police said was consistent with her description of her being tied up and struggling to free herself.

The woman told police she ran from the motel screaming for help. Wason had her purse and phone, which were later found in a field on Whitehall Road, she said.

When police identified Wason as a potential suspect, a detective received a text message from him Monday evening asking for an opportunity to “clarify.” Wason admitted he was the person officers were looking for but contradicted the woman’s allegations, police wrote.

Wason told officers he paid the woman cash for “intimate adult relationships,” police wrote. The two had sex, but Wason said he wanted to leave the room after the woman snorted drugs, police wrote.

He then took back the money he had given her and a fight ensued, police wrote.

According to the charging document, Wason denied using or possessing handcuffs or claiming he was a police officer. He admitted he “wanted light restraints,” police wrote.

Officers said they found some of Wason’s clothing in the motel room, as well as a pair of handcuffs, condoms and a motel receipt in his vehicle. There appeared to be blood on a set of handcuffs, police wrote.

No defense attorney was listed Tuesday.

Wason was charged with rape, aggravated assault, sexual assault, strangulation and robbery. He was also charged with simple assault, false imprisonment and impersonating a public servant.

He was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Don Hahn. Bail was set at $135,000, but Wason did not post it. He is incarcerated at the Center County Correctional Facility.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 9.
