1-year-old boy dies of heart attack after mother’s boyfriend allegedly beats him | Trending

Edward Murray, 23, of Ohio, was arrested after being accused of murdering his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son. Murray was reportedly charged with murder, aggravated assault and child endangerment following his arrest on May 10.

On May 1, paramedics were called to a home in Cincinnati where they found the child unconscious. They then tried to save his life. He was taken to the intensive care unit at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for treatment. The child’s death was confirmed on May 5, WCPO reported.

An examination of the 1-year-old’s horrific injuries found that he suffered cardiac arrest, which resulted in brain damage, a broken rib, a lacerated liver, bleeding eye tissue and swelling of the brain. Doctors said the child’s injuries “could only have been caused by violent impacts against objects or punches,” People reported.

According to WCPO, Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers said in a press release, “Expert child abuse doctors at Cincinnati Children’s concluded that these injuries could only have been caused by violent impacts against objects or from being hit. This case is both heartbreaking and sickening. I can’t imagine how much evil it takes to injure an innocent child so badly. Murray and the child’s mother, Aminata Keita, had reportedly been together for about three months. Police said the night the child died (May 1), Murray was playing with him outside. Murray said the boy was exhausted, so he “carried him in and straight to bed and skipped dinner.”

According to People, Murray and Aminata Keita smoked marijuana afterward and stopped checking on the child that night. The next morning, the child was found unresponsive while Murray was reportedly alone with him.

Murray’s defense attorney told WCPO he was not the “typical murder suspect without a criminal background.” He’s Exhibit A as to why you shouldn’t talk to the police. I believe you have statements from the defendant based on tricks that lead to false confessions. ” The defense attorney also added that Keita’s mother does not believe Murray was responsible for her son’s death.
