Officials said a person at the senior center called the sheriff’s department after receiving a warning that there may be an explosive device on the property.

Officers responded and ordered a temporary evacuation of the senior center so they could search the property, SDSO said.

About 70 participants and 40 staff members were safely evacuated to the church next door, according to Mary Jurgensen, director of community engagement at the West PACE Center.

The incident was resolved at around 1:33 p.m. and the evacuation order was lifted after officials deemed the threat to be a false claim. No injuries were reported, according to SDSO.
