1 in hospital, 1 arrested after stabbing at Maple Springs Court

MARTINEZ, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – One person was hospitalized following a stabbing in the 4000 block of Maple Springs Court Tuesday morning, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said officers were called to the Maple Springs courthouse at 1:30 a.m. for a stabbing and identified a male victim.

Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim’s two roommates, who stated that they were sleeping when they were awakened by an argument outside their bedroom.

During the investigation, officers said the victim and the suspect, 31-year-old Lucio Hernandez DeLaCruz, fell through the roommates’ bedroom door.

According to the sheriff’s office, the roommates said they saw DeLaCruz stab the victim but did not know what sparked the argument.

Officials said DeLaCruz was on Columbia Road, not far from the crime scene, around 8:30 a.m. Officials said he was carrying a black school bag with blood-stained clothing.

According to deputies, the victim was taken to Doctor’s Hospital and is in stable condition.

DeLaCruz is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

The sheriff’s office says no bail has been set.
