Death investigation underway after woman and child found in submerged vehicle

EUFAULA, Alabama (WRBL) – Eufaula police are investigating the cause of death of a woman and child after their bodies were discovered in a submerged vehicle near Old Creek Town Park.

Eufaula police said Sunday they received a call about the possible whereabouts of two women and a four-year-old who were reported missing on June 1. Police began searching the water area near Old Creek Town Park around 8:30 p.m. and found a vehicle submerged in 12 feet of water.

Houston County rescue divers were called to confirm the find and hook up the vehicle for recovery. After the vehicle was recovered, a girl and a young boy were found dead inside.

The police department says Houston County officers and divers continue to search the area for a possible third person. This is a developing story. WRBL will provide further updates as additional details become available.
