Suspect transferred from Arizona to Nevada after shooting involving police

GOLDEN VALLEY, AZ (AZFamily) – A suspect is now in the custody of Nevada authorities following a shooting Saturday morning in Arizona involving sheriff’s officers.

The suspect was identified Wednesday as 40-year-old William Erwin of Lakewood, California, just outside Los Angeles.

Shortly after 11 a.m., deputies with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to Highway 68 in Golden Valley, west of Kingman, for a report of an armed man driving a stolen U-Haul. Deputies initially arrived in the area and found the vehicle missing, but were later able to locate it.

While locating the stolen vehicle, authorities say a shootout involving officers occurred and the suspect sped away from the scene. However, the suspect was later taken into custody by Bullhead City Police and turned over to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

Erwin was booked into the Clark County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, illegal eluding police, and two warrants out of Bullhead City.

Detectives with the Lake Havasu City Police Department were called to investigate the shooting. It is standard protocol to have a shooting involving police officers investigated by an outside agency.

No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the 65th police-involved shooting in Arizona this year.
