DAVIE, Florida. – A violent altercation captured on Ring security camera footage led to the arrest of a 64-year-old man, police said, on suspicion of attacking his girlfriend’s elderly parents after refusing to walk the family dog.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. Sunday at a home near the 11000 block of North Harmony Lake Circle in Davie.

The victims, both nearly 80 years old, told police that Glenn Karant, who lived with them and their daughter, became angry when they repeatedly asked him to walk their dog.

Instead, Karant ignored them and preferred to watch television, which, according to police, escalated into violence.

Surveillance camera footage showed the moment when Karant apparently snatched the stick from his 79-year-old father, causing him to fall to the ground.

When his wife tried to retrieve the stick, investigators say, Ring video shows Karant kicking her in the stomach and throwing her onto a couch. The victim’s wife was then seen fighting back, hitting Karant with a shoe while yelling at him in Mandarin, authorities said.

Davie police said they arrested Karant following the incident and he appeared in Broward County Court on Monday charged with two counts of assault on a person 65 years of age or older.

Judge Michele McCaul Ricca found that the charges were sufficiently merited.

During the trial, Karant, who was represented by a public defender, claimed he was the victim and said he called the police after being attacked by the couple.

His attorney argued that the video shown to law enforcement captured only a portion of the incident, during which Karant defended himself. The defense suggested that the initial confrontation, when Karant was allegedly attacked by the victims, was not recorded.

However, the couple’s daughter, who was not present at the incident, gave authorities the full video, which began recording when movement was detected.

Prosecutors argued that Karant’s actions were unjustified, pointing out that this was not his first brush with the law. According to court records, he was previously arrested for violating a domestic violence restraining order and for trespassing in 2019.

Although the couple is not seriously injured, they told Local 10’s Roy Ramos that they fear Karant may return.

Karant has since posted $10,000 bail and has been banned from leaving the victims’ home.
