What started as a leisurely kayak trip turned disturbing when two paddlers came across human remains near the Chemung River in the town of Chemung on Saturday.

According to New York State Police, the kayakers reported their find on September 28, after which officers uncovered portions of skeletal remains in a wooded area along the riverbank.
