Richmond RCMP remain silent on investigation into mischief involving Mercedes-Benz

Richmond police are asking for the public’s help in locating the occupants of a vehicle they believe may have information related to the misconduct investigation, but they cannot release more details about the offense in question or how it relates to an investigation that began last year.

The crime occurred in March of this year, Richmond RCMP said in a news release last week.

However, the case file number is 2023-40077. The first four digits indicate the year in which the file was opened.

CTV News reached out to the division to ask for clarification on whether the press release contained a typo and received confirmation earlier this week that it did not.

“To confirm, the file number and date are correct,” said Cpl. Adrianna O’Malley in an email to CTV News. “Regarding the investigation, no further information will be released at this time.”

O’Malley would not detail the nature of the crime that occurred in March, nor did she say what the original 2023 incident was that sparked the investigation.

“Generally speaking, incidents reported separately may be investigated as part of the same record if there are factors that suggest a potential link,” O’Malley said.

The vehicle police are looking for is a white Mercedes-Benz with several modifications, including a black and white aftermarket hood, black rear spoiler, black roof and silver five-star rims, Richmond RCMP said in a news release Friday.

Police released three short videos of the vehicle with the release, but provided very little information about why they were seeking information about it.

“Richmond RCMP are investigating shenanigans that took place in downtown Richmond in March 2024.” – we read in the announcement.

“Richmond RCMP believe that a person or persons associated with this vehicle may have information that could assist in the investigation.”

Police said the investigation is “active and ongoing” and asked anyone with information to call 604-278-1212.

“This vehicle has various features, including an aftermarket hood, which we believe someone may recognize,” O’Malley said in the release.

“We are asking anyone who recognizes this vehicle to contact us.”
