Teenager dies, four people severely burned after electrocution in Kedah

PADANG TERAP – On October 30, a teenager was killed and four other people were injured in a rice field in Kampung Tanjung Putus, Kedah.

As Sinar Harian reported on October 31, as a result of the incident, 14-year-old Hariyz Akief Noraimi, who was also a student of Dato Syed Ahmad Secondary School, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kuala Nerang.

Padang Terap (IPD) Head of Management Assistant Deputy Supt Yukhrul Mohd Yusof said the incident is believed to have taken place at 6.30pm when the victim and his four friends went to the area to get artificial bait attached to an electric cable.

He said one of the victim’s friends got on the seat of his motorcycle and tried to hook the artificial bait using an aluminum pole.

“During this time, the victim and other friends were holding the motorcycle to prevent it from falling.

“While trying to hook an artificial bait, five teenagers were electrocuted, as a result of which they all fainted.

“Four friends of the victim (Hariyz) regained consciousness shortly afterwards, but the victim was unconscious.

“All the victims were sent to Kuala Nerang Hospital by the villagers and upon arrival at the hospital, the doctor confirmed that Muhammad Hariyz had died,” said ASP Yukhrul, who was contacted on October 31.

He said Hariyz’s body was taken to the forensic department of Alor Setar hospital for autopsy.

He said the other four teenagers, aged 15, 16 and 19, suffered burns to their legs, body and face. They received treatment in hospital. STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
