The biggest revelations from Megan Thee Stallion’s documentary ‘In Her Words’

Megan Thee Stallion she tells her side of the story – and she doesn’t hold back.

IN Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Wordswhich premiered on Prime Video on October 31, the 29-year-old Houston rapper takes center stage as she talks about her ups and downs since her musical breakthrough in 2018.

Directed by Nneka Onuorah, the film promises to “follow the Houston native’s journey to stardom as she perseveres through fame, grief, pressure and success. “The documentary captures Megan’s most vulnerable moments in a powerful way that allows fans to meet the real Megan Pete,” the synopsis reads.

And it doesn’t disappoint. Throughout the film, the “Captain Hook” rapper pulls back the curtain on the death of her mother and the social ramifications of her legal relationship with Tory Lanez after he allegedly shot her in the foot in 2020 and what effect it all had on her mental health.

Megan reveals that she has made the decision to cut her mom off

In 2019, Megan’s mother and manager, Holly Thomas, died of brain cancer.

In the documentary, the “WAP” rapper talks about the day her mother ended up in the hospital and how she was a mess when she found out she had a brain tumor.

“They had to put her to sleep…she was brain dead,” Megan says. “So I stayed there every day… praying that she would snap out of it.”

Megan then reveals that she had to make a difficult decision.

“I had to make the decision to pull the plug, and she just died the next day,” she says with tears in her eyes.

After Megan’s mother died in 2019, she claims she “forgot” who she was and “lost a lot of self-confidence.”

“I was used to my mom telling me what to do, and when life started getting crazy, I didn’t have her,” she says.

Around this time, she turned to Kelsey to build a sense of “family” and considered her her “best friend.”

“It’s deeper than what people see,” Kelsey says in the flashback video. “We are sisters.”

The night Megan was allegedly shot by Lanez, Kelsey was in the car and later testified in court. While Megan’s testimonyshe claimed that Kelsey and Lanez met and “went to reverse history.”

“She just really disappointed me and let me down,” Megan says in the documentary. “I would never let someone like that drag my best friend.”

Megan reveals she went on a mental health retreat in 2022 after experiencing suicidal thoughts

In 2022, Megan went on a mental health retreat after her house was broken into while she was performing Saturday Night Live.

“It was three days. I didn’t get out of bed for three days. I lay under the covers and cried every day,” she says in the documentary, recalling her downward spiral.

And for the first time in her life, Megan felt suicidal. “I’d rather not experience it than have to live with it,” she recalls this feeling.

During the retreat, Megan underwent various types of therapy that ultimately helped her get back on track.

When Lanez was charged, she burst into tears

In the documentary, viewers go through the day Megan waited for the outcome of the trial.

That day, Megan was waiting impatiently at her home with her loved ones.

When she learned that Lanez had been found guilty on various charges, she burst into tears.

“Thank you, God,” he says at this point.

And although he was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023. Megan admits that she still deals with people who are “mad at me because I said what happened to me.”

“I feel like I’m getting to the point where I really don’t care. For the first time since my mother has been alive, I take care of myself because I want to feel good,” she says.
