US elections 2024: Elon Musk to appear in court in Philadelphia over million donation

A Philadelphia judge has postponed a hearing in District Attorney Larry Krasner’s lawsuit Elon Musk$1 million-a-day voting initiative. Initially scheduled for Friday, the hearing has been rescheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. and will be held at Philadelphia City Hall rather than the original courthouse, providing increased security as Krasner requested.

Elon Musk was summoned to take part in an extraordinary hearing.

Krasner, who filed the lawsuit on Monday, reportedly received threats and anti-Semitic messages from Musk’s supporters after the lawsuit was announced. Some posts even reportedly included Krasner’s home address, urging followers to “visit,” which he described as “criminal” and “threatening.”

The lawsuit filed by Krasner on Monday alleges that Musk’s campaign, run by the political action committee America PAC, violates Pennsylvania’s strict lottery laws. The program offers rewards worth $1 million a day to registered voters in battleground states who sign a petition supporting the First and Second Amendments, an initiative that Krasner says violates consumer protection laws. He also argued that the program requires voters to provide personal information, which could have further implications for consumer rights and privacy.

The Department of Justice recently issued a warning Musk‘s America PAC that offering financial incentives for voting may violate federal regulations.

Ahead of Thursday’s expedited hearing, Krasner reportedly requested additional security, underscoring growing tensions over the highly important case.
