Unlocking high-quality education through UTSA’s online education initiatives

Bovi says the cybersecurity program provides knowledge and skills while creating opportunities. It also allows for personal connections.

“What really matters to me is the people you meet along the way and the experiences you gain. The new things you learn in each of these classes will set me apart from other people,” Bovi said.

UTSA’s online degree programs are successful due to several factors, including program quality, faculty and student support.

“We have a very low student-to-faculty ratio. We are able to provide our students with high-quality concierge services to ensure they complete their studies,” he said Suzanna Diaz RosencransUTSA’s associate vice chancellor for academic innovation and director of online marketing and recruitment.

UTSA’s fully online undergraduate programs have transitioned No. 85 in 2023 to No. 57 this year and was ranked in the top 20% of more than 399 institutions ranked, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Online Programs list.

“Our goal is to make Roadrunner available to students who might not be able to use it due to work, family responsibilities or because they can’t quit what they’re doing and become a full-time student,” he said Melissa VitoUTSA vice chancellor for academic innovation.

Vito says UTSA is unique in that faculty and internal teams are responsible for creating online courses and providing personalized support to students. Other institutions outsource course development and student support.

“Our approach is that we wanted to make sure that it was our faculty, our team that helped create the courses, and that our team helped support the students. Therefore, the experience, although different, has the same level of quality and attention to the element of personalization that we offered our students in face-to-face meetings,” Vito said.

UTSA continues to add new, innovative online programs to meet student needs, such as the newly launched Digital Media Influence program tailored for students interested in creating content to become media influencers.

“The Digital Media Influence program speaks directly to what our students need and want in the job market. It is also a perfect reflection of the technology and development of the industry,” said Diaz Rosencrans.

Bovi is passionate about the growing field of cybersecurity and eagerly participates in further courses. He plans to graduate by spring 2027.

“I am excited to continue my education at UTSA and dive deeper into my cybersecurity journey,” Bovi said.
