PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Maryland (7News) – The tragic Craig family affair continued Thursday in a Prince George’s County courtroom, where the daughter of Candace Craig, the woman accused of murdering her elderly mother Margaret Craig in May 2023, continued on the witness stand.

Salia Hardy spent two days telling the court about the extensive actions Candace allegedly took to kill and dismember Margaret, Candace’s mother, and Hardy’s grandmother, after Margaret and Candace argued over money.

Hardy was charged with conspiracy in June 2023 but agreed to a plea deal; on Wednesday, she told the court she heard Margaret scream before Candace told her about the murder. Candace allegedly killed Margaret on May 23, 2023Hardy said Wednesday that after Margaret found out Candace had stolen money from her bank accounts.

Hardy told the court Thursday that work to dispose of Margaret’s body began the day after Candace bought a chainsaw from Amazon and was seen dismembering Margaret with it. Hardy said she also saw Candace holding and wearing body parts while asking Hardy for help in burning the body.

Defense attorneys tried to cast doubt on Hardy’s claims, questioning whether there were other people in the house, the legality of her statements and the plea deal Hardy accepted with the county that reduces her prison sentence.

At one point, Hardy testified in court that she told police the truth about helping to dismember her grandmother’s body because she didn’t think she would get in trouble for her involvement.

“I lied to everyone, but I told the police the truth,” Hardy told the court.

Prosecutors from the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office asked Hardy three questions: “Did Grandma commit suicide?” “Did Grandma die peacefully in her sleep?” and “Did you kill grandma?” All three responses received negative feedback. NO and Hardy was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs.

Hardy finished his hearing just before noon, and Candace’s other daughters are expected to take the stand later in the trial.
