Police say a Montgomery High School student was arrested with a loaded gun in his locker

Authorities in Santa Rosa arrested a 16-year-old Montgomery High School student Wednesday morning after finding a loaded gun in his school locker, authorities said in a news release.

Authorities say this is the second time in as many weeks that a teenager has been arrested at Santa Rosa High School for possessing a loaded handgun on campus.

A 16-year-old Montgomery High School student was arrested Wednesday after a loaded handgun was found in his school locker, according to Santa Rosa police.

The teenager is in juvenile detention on charges of possessing a loaded handgun on campus and possession of a handgun by a minor.

Last week, on October 24, Santa Rosa police said yes arrested another 16-year-old studentthis time at Elsie Allen High School, who was found with a loaded gun and ammunition in his backpack.

No injuries were reported in any incident and each weapon was seized by police.

In Wednesday’s incident at Montgomery High, police said they were called to the school shortly before 10:45 a.m. after an administrator reported a possible firearm on campus.

The report was prompted by a notification in the STOPit application, which, according to its creator, allows students to anonymously report incidents of risky behavior, such as bullying or cyberbullying.

The notification indicated that three 16-year-old students may have firearms, officials said, adding that school administrators immediately notified police.

Police officers found and initially detained all three boys. However, after questioning, it was determined that only one of them had a weapon, authorities said.

Authorities said a handgun and a loaded magazine were recovered from the boy’s locker.

In a memo sent Wednesday to parents of Montgomery High School students, Principal April Santos said the first tip on the STOPit app also included a photo of a gun.

“Students who bring weapons to campus will be held accountable by the school for their actions and law enforcement will be contacted,” Santos said. “Law enforcement and school officials imposed consequences on students, holding them accountable for their actions.”

She added that in a second, unrelated incident on campus on Wednesday, “Two students who had a history of conflict became involved in an argument that was quickly defused by staff. Classes are currently underway with both students and appropriate consequences are being drawn.

“Despite previous incidents, the campus was safe and all students involved were cared for. The rest of the students continued their day as usual,” Santos said.
