In this email General Ramirez he said he decided to retire so he could spend more time with his family.

On Wednesday afternoon, Texas A&M University President Gen. Mark Welsh issued a statement congratulating General Ramirez on his retirement.

As General Ramirez leaves his position at the beginning of the new year, the search for his successor will begin soon.

“We will establish a search committee quite quickly and, in short order, we will begin a nationwide search for a new vice president for student affairs,” said Susan Ballabina, chief of staff in the president’s office.

Due to the length of the process, the search for General Ramirez’s successor may end only after his retirement.

She said if there was a gap, an interim would be appointed.

Ballabina described this role as one of the key ones at the university.

“We are looking for candidates who see the world through the prism of our core values, right? We want to make sure they understand the unique nature of Texas A&M,” Ballabina added.

General Ramirez agreed to an interview with KBTX on November 1.
