During the investigation, authorities said they believe the suspect, whose name has not yet been made public, acted alone and there is no further threat to the community.

Dustin Mitchell Kjersem, 35, of Belgrade, Montana, was found dead Oct. 12 on Moose Creek Road, north of Big Sky.

Kjersem’s body was found in a tent by a passer-by who suggested that the cause of his death could have been a bear.

Sheriff Dan Springer said an autopsy showed Kjersem had “multiple incision wounds,” including to the skull. It was determined that there were no signs of the bear’s presence and the investigation was changed to a homicide investigation.
